How to install the VisibleHours Windows tray agent
Download the unsigned company-PC installer, paste an invite code, and keep the tray icon visible. SmartScreen is expected until signing.
VisibleHours records apps and idle time from a Windows tray agent on company PCs. Managers do not install anything on personal phones. The path is: create an organization, invite a person, download the installer, paste the invite, keep the tray visible.
The current installer is unsigned. SmartScreen will warn. That is expected until Operations adds a signing certificate. The warning itself is SmartScreen on unsigned Setup.exe. Do not hide the tray to “get around” the warning — the icon is how people know tracking is on. The real download is /download. The written notice is /notice. Signed-in Help repeats the same steps at /help/download.
1. Create the organization
Signup at /signup creates your organization and makes you the admin. Other organizations cannot see your people. Seats are $7 per person / month. New orgs start in trial until you activate seats in Settings.
2. Send the notice, then add an employee
Hand people the employee notice before the installer. After you sign in, add the person on Team. Each person gets an invite code and a /join link. The code does not expire until Operations regenerates it. VisibleHours does not email the invite. That code, plus the API URL, is what the tray asks for.
3. Download VisibleHours-Setup.exe
The one-click NSIS installer lives on /download. It starts the tray agent and offers a Start Menu shortcut. If you cannot run a setup wizard, use the portable build on the same page. The developer zip is source only — it is not a runnable program.
- Download VisibleHours-Setup.exe (Windows x64).
- SmartScreen → More info → Run anyway.
- Finish the installer. The tray icon should appear.
- Paste the API URL and invite from Team, or open the /join link.
- Leave the icon visible. Pause and quit stay one click.
- After idle, the tray tracks again on its own. A network blip retries in the tray. Last-seen and Offline are signed-in Team screens — this public guide will not install the agent on every PC.
What the agent records on day one
- Foreground app and title, about every five seconds.
- Browser domain when Windows or the window title has it.
- Idle after no keyboard or mouse for a few minutes (idle minutes are in Settings).
- Screenshots and recording sessions stay off until you turn them on. Read the screenshots and recordings workup before you do.
The Windows agent does not log keystrokes, clipboard, webcam, microphone, or GPS. Field punches are a separate phone-web page at /checkin— see mobile check-in.
What this install is not
- Not a Mac, Linux, iOS, or Android agent. Company Windows PCs are enough for this slice.
- Not a signed installer and not a Microsoft Store app. SmartScreen is the honest warning.
- Not a silent install without notice. Send /notice first. Pause and Quit stay one click.
- Not a hidden service. If someone cannot see the tray, tracking is not running.
